Naval attack- JI believes facts being hidden from nation

LAHORE, (Pakistan) The Jamaat e Islami chief, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said there were several contradictions in the statements made by the Interior Minister and the Pakistan Navy chief about the terrorist attack on the Mehran naval base, and facts were being hidden from the nation.
In a statement here on Tuesday, he said the present situation had vindicated the JI stance that the participation in the US war would bring huge disaster and that the US was fighting a proxy war as its actual goal was to grab Pakistan’s nuclear assets.
Syed Munawar Hasan pointed out that after the Naval attack, the number of terrorists was reported to be between 10 to 15 and the figure given in the FIR was 12. However, at the end of a 16-hours long operation, it was stated that four terrorists had died while two had escaped. He said the people wanted to know how two terrorists escaped in spite of the high security alert.
He said, according to the Pakistan Navy spokesman, some of the terrorists had been taken in custody but Rehman Malik stated at his press conference that none of the assailants had survived.
He said it was the Defense Ministry’s responsibility to inform the media about the attack on the naval air base but the Defence Minister was keeping silence while Interior Minister Rehman Malik was issuing statements as defense counsel for the US and India.
The JI chief said the country was in the grip of terrorism and such incidents were happening repeatedly. The Federal government must explain this glaring lack of coordination between institutions.
Syed Munawar Hasan further said that immediately after the attack, Rehman Malik told the media that it was the Al-Qaida and Taliban activity. The question was how did the Interior Minister learn that Al-Qaida and Taliban were involved especially when the security sources were hinting at foreign hand in the incident.
He said that two highly costly surveillance planes had been destroyed in the attack. After all, who except India could be interested in their destruction because it was New Delhi that had strongly opposed their supply to this country. These planes were the terrorists’ first target and the Indian media was overjoyed over their destruction.
The JI chief said that immediately after the attack, NATO and the western media had expressed reservations about the security of Pakistan’s nuclear assets. This left no doubt that the CIA and India were jointly carrying out activities to destabilize this country to make out a case for international control over our nuclear assets.
Syed Munawar Hasan said the nation that was spending billions on national defense, was worried that our security institutions were unable to protect themselves.
The people were now worried about our nuclear assets as were our deterrent against India.
He deplored the Navy chief’s remarks that the loss to the country was not much in view of the expertise, experience and high training of the attackers, and said the loss of two planes worth 40 billion dollars should not be underestimated.
. Meanwhile, the JI Secretary General, Liaquat Baloch, said in a separate statement that as long as Interior Minister Rehman Malik was in his office, neither any terrorist net work could be exposed nor any investigation could prove fruitful for the nation.

Foreign hands behind Naval Attack

LAHORE, May 23: The Jamaat e Islami chief, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said that the attack on the PNS Mehran, Karachi was well organized terrorism and the hand of the US, India and Israel therein could not be ruled out.
    In a statement here on Monday, he strongly condemned the incident and said that  while the foreign hand was playing with Pakistan’s existence, our intelligence agencies were busy in securing US targets and Interior Minister Rehman Malik was playing the role of Defense counsel by linking every terrorist activity with the Al-Qaida and the Taliban.
    Terming the Karachi incident as the biggest one after the GHQ attack, the JI chief said that the enemy was trying to destabilize this country in order to deprive it of its independence and sovereignty.
    He said, such a major and organized attack at a naval base reflected complete security failure. It seemed that there was none to defend this country and the enemy could attack anywhere, any time while the rulers were not sincere with the country as all their interests were linked with foreign countries, especially the US.
    Syed Munawar Hasan said that three consecutive attacks on Navy buses should have activated the intelligence agencies to trace the terrorists, which was however not done and the indifference of these agencies had resulted in such a colossal loss.
    The Indian media’s taking the lead in broadcasting the news of the incident was an indicator that the enemy powers were playing a deadly game with this country, he said. He said, Rehman Malik had always denied the Black Water’s existence in the country but the repeated terrorist attacks here proved that the CIA, Black Water and Indian’ agencies had established their net work here.
    He said, there were reports of arrest of four terrorists, and their interrogation could lead to the culprits’ net work. However, he feared that as usual, the details of this enquiry would never be made public.
